The Monuments Men (2014, USA, George Clooney)
The Monuments Men is a heartwarming true story about a team of art curators that are trying to preserve culture during WWII. Lead by Frank Stokes (Clooney), this team travel though France and Germany to recover the stolen art from Hitler’s clutches and quickly – before the Russians come and claim them as their own.
With two heart-wrenching, but necessary, deaths (at least in terms of drawing the team together and highlighting the importance and gravity of their task) this film is an eye opener into the camaraderie and dynamic between soliders – of all nationalities.
I would give this film an 8/10 – it’s slightly slow to start and seems to lack structure – but at the end of the day…so is war!
